EUROPA NEUROTISCH # 2 : BAR EUROPA, WEEK 2

Opening times Bar Europa: Thursday till Saturday, 20.00 – 23.00
This week in Bar Europa:

Paula Muhr (DE), Ideal Place, 8.15 Minutes

The Ideal Place  deals with the Utopian construct of an idyllic state of happiness. The work is based on interviews with young people who were born and live in different countries of Eastern Europe.
All the people were interviewed in natural surroundings (parks, fields, woods, countryside) to avoid any direct social context. They stated their name, age, and the city and country they come from, before describing in a few sentences their imagined ideal place. The general idea of this project is to compare different projections of Utopia based on the individual experiences and personal desires of young people coming from Eastern Europe. On the other hand, it also draws attention to similarities and general attitudes of people belonging to the same age group, regardless of the place where they come from.

Romain Sein (FR), The man from Albacete, 5 Minutes

The man from Albacete was shot during a spring night in Paris, on a tennis court of a nice neighbourhood. The subject is an encounter with a very special tennis player who exclusively plays by night. This sportsman from Albacete explains the reason of his attraction for darkness, which takes source in the classical Spanish painting and some weird experiences. Between fiction and reality, lies and unbelievable truths, the discussion shows how the strange man has built his own game with his own rules.

Cristina David (RO), The Real Reason of the Migration of People in Europe to West, 1.57 Minutes
In this work I took a position between fiction and reality. It is a naive hypothesis to think that people migrate to the West, to become younger. I come from Eastern Europe and I have a pretty good idea why people from East go to the West. I know they are not traveling as a means to rediscover their youth, but then again, why should I repeat what everybody knows already from the news, all the stereotypes about emigrants? Why not to take a more playful approach?

Cornelius Onitsch (DE), EUR (total), 15 Minutes

Ruins: five 360° pan shots shot shortly before the E. Union's first eastern enlargement in spring 2004 on the then external frontier of the community: the river Oder, german-polish border river and Berlin's Palace of the Republic (Palast der Republik) before its demolition. The factory alike powerplant (called Finkenherd) in the first image was destroyed by the Red Army after being long time defended by sacrificing dozens of children of the Hitler Youth. The bridge at the end of the fifth image was destroyed by the German Wehrmacht to stop Red Army's invasion. The eastern part of the bridge remained.
The soundtrack heard in the three Palace takes is a german language course for Ukrainians.
EUR (Esposizione Universale di Roma) was build under the Italian fascist regime in order to hold the Great Exhibition in 1942. In 2003/2004 it was one of the venues for Italy's Presidency of the Council of the European Union as EUR is one abbreviation of our corporate money.
